Never mind. I just realized what everybody is saying and it just wasn't sinking in. If we put out a new host file to everybody then the mappings between the names will be done. If we put an entry in there for the old I/P address (which is being used as the name for 1/2 the PCs) then map it to the new I/P address we would catch everybody that either uses the Server Name or I/P address as the name.

That is what we are most likely going to do. We have a 100base T ethernet card and the Gig ethernet card. We most likely will put the Gig on the new address and change the 100base T card to the main I/P number (we use both because some printers do not support bi-directional connections).

This change would only potentially effect the printers we have defined on the line but shouldn't really effect anybody or anything.

Since we have between 500 and 1000 computers we were hoping for a simple solution to changing them over.

We checked into the host file but that is not going to resolve our problem. When you set up an environment in Navigator you must define both the name and I/P. The I/P is stored somewhere (not the host file) and we were hoping someone (maybe even IBM could tell us how to change them all using a script).

Perhaps your life could be easier if you would add
another interface to your iSeries using your new IP
Address. Then you will have both IP addresses
assigned to your iSeries. When your DNS changes, it
would then point it to the correct IP. In the mean
time your system would run business as usual, and
would possibly ease the cutover phase.

Add the interface by using the CFGTCP command, option
1. When creating the interface, use the same line
description for the new interface.

Our network people are going through the process of
redoing the entire network which includes new I/P addresses. Our
problem is going to be when the iSeries I/P addresses change and we have to
change all the PCs using Client Access (or iSeries Access).

Is there a way to write a script that would change
the names and I/P address for Navigator and the 5250 display sessions?
If so, could someone help me on this.

TIA
