Greyed out would have clued us in to our problem alot quicker... ours
didn't show in the GUI at all! You were lucky. ;)

There were a few records that the interface always left greyed out. I did
try to encourage the gent to call IBM.

The DNS redbook has a mention that the records should preferably always be
edited via the Ops Nav interface, but i've found a few situations
otherwise
(with the help of IBM Service). We've had a few instances where the GUI
interface to the DNS zones doesn't show all the listings that are in the
actual text files that drive the server. It seems that sometimes there
are
'ghost' records that get left in the files and queries will still resolve
using those records. We needed to remove them manually from the actual
zone file because they didn't show in the GUI. Not sure how common this
is...

Yes, check in /QIBM/UserData/OS400/DNS/xxx, where xxx is the name of your
configured DNS server.
