Carel,

 Interesting suggestion, but the requirement is to be able to put 
the formatted text into a variable, to display on a regular 
DSPF.  IIRC, that API is a pop-up that overlays the screen.

 I ended up writing a routine to do it and put it into a *SRVPGM.
