Totally disagree with winner needs to be present....especially if I'm paying $100/ticket.
There are times when people's logicistics just don't allow them to be there. When we have raffles here in DC (and we give the gifts away), if the person isn't around I'll make sure that it gets to them. I got burned on this once when I went to an IBM meeting, had to leave early because a IBM BP had screwed up something and I got called to fix it and as luck would have it, I won a rather nice prize...only to find out that they handed it to someone else because I wasn't there. Needless to say, that IBM'er lost alot of respect.
