I've got a 2058 Crypto Card. Now I need the OS enablement. Frankly, I'm not sure I buy the 'expensive in software' argument if you're running a newer CPU. As an example, I'm using PGP whole disk encryption ( http://www.pgp.com/products/desktop/professional/pgpwholedisk.html ) on my laptop so every disk access I do has to be en/decrypted. The impact on performance is minimal enough that I haven't noticed it. The CPU is a 2GHz PentiumM & the drive is a 60GB 7200RPM Hitachi. If I don't notice the CPU overhead on every single read/write on my PC, including swap file access, then I would think the overhead with streaming content to/from the tape drive would be similarly minimal.
