Good Friday everybody,

Let say I create a bunch of specific SQL UDFs called:

ItemDescription()

ItemQOH()

Item12MonthUsage(), etc....

Let's also say that this information is all available in Table ITEMMSTR.

All of these functions use ITEM# as an input parameter, Select from the
ITEMMSTR and return the correct information.

So now I do a select:

Select

            ItemDescription(ITEM#) as "Item Description",

ItemQOH(ITEM#) as "Quantity on Hand",

Item12MonthUsage(ITEM#) as "Average Yearly Usage"

From

            SomeListOfItems

Does each one of these functions need to retrieve this information from
ITEMMSTR or does the record somehow stay resident in memory from one
function request to the next. So when I roll this out to 500 users is
the system going to get slammed?

I know I can join to the ITEMMASTR from the SomeListOfItems table but
that's not what I'm asking. TIA
