Python or PHP

Hi,

I have a need to create a few basic web pages (i.e., an input form or two) and 
tie them into a MySQL database.  This will be on a unix platform.  I have been 
told that my options are to use either Python or PHP.  

Since I have no experience with either, or ANY unix-based programming for that 
matter...I am soliciting opinios and suggestions on the best language choice,  
online tutorials and/or books...anything that will help me to learn and at the 
same time get this project done in a timely manner.
