Now, is there an equally simple way to get right to the details so I don't have to put a 5 next to the interface to get at the info I'm interested in? How about a way to specify which interface I'm interested in (i.e. the equivalent of 'ifconfig eth0')?
I think you'd have to write your own. I've done something similar with the ioctl() API as part of an article I wrote. You could modify my code to make your own utility that works the way you're expecting. Heck, you could even make it work in QShell if you want it to be particularly unixlike.
