Hi Larry

I already knew the answer with regards to iNav *grin* I was wondering whether the character interfaces were actually as good as the iNav display which I actually happen to quite like. Of course if you are configuring Virtual IP - as you probably already know - you will have to use the GUI as it's the only place you can check the use Proxy Arp check box (which annoys me no end but that's another story).

I am assuming that your references to which display shows the bound Virtual IP address relate to the character interfaces as my recollection is that the GUI will show the bound interface about three or four columns over without requiring any detective work.

My original question was a result of wondering about the usefulness of the netstat command for this purpose and the irrelevence of the unix command compared to one of those instances where the GUI actually seems to add value.

OK Whoever decided to post 'ifconfig' or 'ipconfig' in restpinse to the original ISERIES question, slap your keying finger it has caused nothing put confusion in this thread.

In respons to Evan's question about showing virtual IP addresses in iNav, yes it does. ALL IP (including the 127.0.0.1 loopback) addresses are shown. They are also shown even if they are down and the status is shown as well.

As to showing which IP address the VIP is bound to, no. You must deduce that bye matching the subnets displayed for each IP that is NOT a VIP to the octets for the VIP. Now if there are more than one that match (i.e. load balancing/failover configured) then you need to right click on the IP address for the Physical line and select ARP. If your VIP appears in that list as 'Proxy' then it's bound to that physical. If not, check the next.physical.

Now that's an ISERIES answer! (and NO keystrokes were required to get it in iNav!)
