I just don't use multiple ASP's. Especially for local disk. Pro's to
using multiple ASP's include:
- Keeping journal receivers on a different ASP from the data to minimize
data loss risk, and maybe increase performance. I've been pushing
journalling but can't seem to get people to adopt it here. Now that the
boss just returned from sipping on the IBM kool-aid in Rochester he's
starting to see the light. Don't you just love it when it takes an
outsider saying the same thing to pierce someone's skull?
- Segregating a set of older slower drives used for some low performance
requirement application from your higher performance requirements. We
just use newer drives and be done with it.
Con's to ASP's:
- Ties up disk space to one ASP that is now not available to the other
ASP.

How do you feel that multiple ASP's for Domino would benefit you? Are you
keeping your cluster brothers on the same iSeries as your primary servers
and want to separate the drives to reduce the risk of a drive failure
killing both? We keep our cluster brothers on a separate iSeries. In
fact we're probably going to triple protection. We've actually had a
primary die when backing up a secondary. Couple of times. Got a hardware
upgrade planned and the old DSD runs great but isn't worth a fart in a
windstorm for trade in.
