Actually, Joe, et al, plainly put, it's nothing more than capitalizing on what we ALL know good and well to be the trend of the industry. If IBM doesn't want the business, it's obvious that Microsoft does. It's IBM's to lose and they're doing a helluva job of losing it....and that's not news to any of us, including you.
If you want to bitch, bitch at IBM...but then, given the TRENDS OF THE INDUSTRY, you can see how much they really listen and care....more than just the lip service they give at COMMON, etc. The fact remains there is no real market penetration/depth/infrastructure development going on, and I'm frankly damn tired of hearing "we just got a new (insert exec name/position du jour here) and they're going to change the world..." BULLSHIT. Heard it too many times, not seeing it happen. All I'm seeing is turnover in the ranks.
Damn shame. Nothing less. And I don't know ANY of us that truly sees any changes coming in the near future. Yes, it'll be around a long time, but then, OS/2 is still around...and MPE, VMS....CPM...NEAT....but do you want to bet your kids college fund or your retirement on them?
And yes, I still think it's the best box out there...I just wish Armonk would take it seriousely.
So, guys, quit grousing at the vendors trying to make a buck following the market trends. I'm tired of hearing it. You wanna bitch, bitch at IBM. But, don't hold your breath.
We in the DC users group are doing our best to keep this system in the forefront and bring the best we can to our membership/userbase here...but, it's a dwindlying group....like it is everywhere else.
