After providing IBM with the information gathered from this list I was directed 
to APAR #SE13418

Which basically says that the problem caused by using CPYF on a table with an 
identity column is a "permanent restriction".


permanent restriction - IBM's way of saying that they rushed a new      
feature into the OS without consideration to current features or the    
fact that the i is supposed to stand for "integrated".
