RE: creating a log spool file for backups

We have a message queue, AUKBACKUP, for the backup jobs which we send a
program message to as the backups progress, using:

  TAG0030:    RTVSYSVAL  SYSVAL(QDATE) RTNVAR(&QDATE)                  
              RTVSYSVAL  SYSVAL(QTIME) RTNVAR(&QTIME)                  

              CHGVAR     VAR(&STAMP) VALUE(%SST(&QDATE 1 2) || '/' || +
                           %SST(&QDATE 3 2) || '/' || %SST(&QDATE 5 +  
                           2) || '  ' || %SST(&QTIME 1 2) || ':' || +  
                           %SST(&QTIME 3 2) || ':' || %SST(&QTIME 5 2))

              SNDPGMMSG  MSGID(AUK0102) MSGF(AUKMSGF) MSGDTA(&STAMP) + 
                           TOMSGQ(AUKBACKUP)                           

Then, to see what happened during the backups we just use DSPMSG
AUKBACKUP and get the following:

Within the job we monitor for errors at each stage of the process and
send a timestamped message as appropriate.
