So I just have to make sure the tape drive I get is compatible with both the model 270 and the model 520. The redpaper says that what comes with the 520 is a 3GB QIC tape drive. That sounds awfully small. Maybe they meant the 13GB drive? In any case, here's a REAL newbie question. If both machines have QIC tape drives but one machine has a drive with greater capacity than the other, can the greater capacity drive write to tapes that the smaller drive can use, and vice versa?
