First of all, thanks very much to Scott and Paul for taking the time to call me and assist with this problem. For anyone interested, the solution turned out to be very simple. We discovered that using TELNET to reach the other system started a session on the source system instead of the target, which seemed to indicate a router problem. The routers were checked multiple times and no errors were discovered. However, since we could send files to both systems via FTP from p.c.s, our network administrator figured there almost had to be a configuration issue on the iSeries. Using option 1 on the CFGTCP menu (Work with TCP/IP Interfaces), he examined the entries. There was an entry on each system for its own i.p. address and the "Interface Status" was active. Upon deactivating the entry (option 10) and waiting 15 minutes (the ARP cache timeout for the TCP/IP attributes) we were able to successfully transfer files via FTP between the two systems. Donald R.
