I haven't played w/DNS on iSeries, but in general that CAN BE a correct
statement, IF it's setup that way.

There are three ways you can setup a DNS server (in general). 

1) Answer the request if you know the answer, if you don't know the
answer, return not found. (perhaps the problem?)

2) Answer the request if you know the answer, if you don't know the
answer, ask your DNS server (this is the setup you're talking about, if
iSeries doesn't know it asks Verizon)

3) Anwer the request if you know the answer, if you don't, go to the
root servers and figure out the answer. (In this case you're not
dependent on someone else's DNS)

Perhaps you're setup in the first way?
