We use tar in qshell. Net is the same file format as a .zip file. It's in there and it's free!
Ummm... Tar is not the same format as Zip. However, WinZIP and several other utilities will handle both, so the difference may be academic.
Also, Tar doesn't do any compression. Typically on a Unix system, you do compression separately with the compress, gzip or bzip2 utilities. Some versions of Tar even have an additional switch that will cause it to automatically run through those utilities.
