On i5 hardware, partition 00 is reserved for the HMC/FSP. The FSP is the Flexible Service Processor, which is a proprietary (hidden) LINUX partition on every i5. It is locked at the hip with the HMC, if one exists. Just like every marriage, when they fight and don't talk, nothing gets done! I don't even know (or care) what LPAR APIs do. Do non-LPARed machines still identify themselves, at the MI level, as LPAR 00? I am, however, still puzzled about this business of the FSP and/or HMC being LPAR 00, and at least on an academic level, I'd like to know more about this. -- James H. H.
