My take on all three of these system values is that the change is
immediate.

For QPWDMINLEN and QPWDMAXLEN, these system values are not challenged until
the next time you use the CHGPWD command (which is the only place where
they are tested), and for QPWDEXPITV, this is challenged the next time that
you sign on.

min/max take effect the next time they change their passwords.

Expiration takes effect at next sign in.

i5/os has something called "help". If I do a DSPSYSVAL QPWDMINLEN and then
press F1 on the screen, somewhere in there I will see:
A change to this system value takes effect the next time a password
is changed. The shipped value is 6.

If I do a DSPSYSVAL QPWDEXPITV, and then press F1 on the screen, somewhere
in there I will see:
A change to this system value takes effect immediately. The shipped
value is *NOMAX.

This I think is wrong. What do you thing, Al? Doesn't it only check at
sign on time?

If I change the system value for the min/max length of passwords, when does
it take effect? What I am asking is what does it do to the person whose
password is too short? Will it wait until password expiration to enforce
the rule or will it be enforced on the next sign on attempt?

Same question for expiration. Some will change from *nomax to 90 days.
When does that kick in?

Thanks,
Greg
