And in this case a FC #2838 will come alive in a low speed slot and may even vary on. However the second you try to run traffic across it the card will fail and may take the IOP down with it.

Also you can put one in E08 in a 7101 or 7102 expansion as well as E09, though this one isn't a 'supported' slot.

You can put in FC #2723 10Mbps ethernet cards in any low speed slot. In many cases a 10Mb card is plenty fast for a 170.
