boost from he days when that "arms" analogy was so true.

I think the "more arms is better" philosophy can be vastly overdone.  We 
reduced our disk arms from 42 down to 7 on one machine and got much better 
performance.  The newer disk drives, controllers, buses, etc blow the old 
stuff away.  But some people have been chanting the "more disk arms is 
better" mantra for so long they don't want to be bothered with facts.
