For those of you like me, whose only memory of college German is "zxei biere,
bitte" , following is the translation supplied by Babel Fish
(http://world.altavista.com/tr). While their translations aren't precise, they
can be helpful in figuring out technical stuff.
"the rumor, which" we did not receive "at least: OS/400 threatens to fall
likewise a Rebranding to the victim, had themselves IBM already the brand name
OS/4i protected. Reliably we experience more in addition to the COMMON
conference 2001 - also over the consequences. Do not miss thus your
participation."

subject: RE: IBM OS/4i???

Hi Don,

I found a reference to this operating system in the
2001 version of a newsletter in German profiling that
year's COMMON.

"Das Gerücht, das "wir" zumindest nicht mitbekommen
haben: OS/400 droht ebenfalls einem Rebranding zum
Opfer zu fallen, IBM hat sich bereits das
Markenzeichen OS/4i schützen lassen. Sicher erfahren
wir dazu auf der COMMON Konferenz 2001 mehr - auch
über die Konsequenzen. Versäumen Sie also Ihre
Teilnahme nicht."

What would probably be kind of fun would be to start a
rumour that due to the success of Linux running on
Intel based servers, IBM had decided it would be
beneficial to the worldwide computer community as a
whole to have a version of the operating system
formerly known as OS/400 that ran on Intel processors
- thus OS/4i.

I'll bet things in Redmond would be busy for a few
minutes investigating that possibility...

Remember this is just a fantasy ...

Best Regards,

/Paul
