Specifically, regarding the death of twin-ax, IBM is not planning to de-support this. It turns out that new regulations in Europe make many IBM adapters out of compliance next year, including the current twin-ax adapter. IBM understands that there are many proprietary twin-ax devices that customers have. (e.g.: point of sale) Their plan is to let users go to twin-ax over Ethernet adapters. In the event that a suitable adapter is not found, they may in fact come out with their own new twin-ax adapter which conforms with the ridiculous European regulations.
