It is the FAA that regulates and
approves all software used in the operation of an airline. Since the
FAA imposes all these requirements on airline software to supposedly
make sure the airline is safe, shouldnt FAA officials be held
accountable when the system fails?

-Steve

The FAA did it's job. Passengers, crew, and we on the ground were safe. The planes did not fly The FAA is in business for us to be safe not for Comair or any other airline to make a buck or look good. When the software fails (and that's pretty much any airline software) they park planes. If you've ever been on one it's infuriating to say the least. But it's safe.

I was flying to COMMON some years ago with a customer and an employee when the pilot actually said: "We cannot leave the gate because we had an indicator that would not go out so we are re-booting the aircraft's computers to clear it. If that works we fly." Had I heard the 'Windows startup sound' during that process I would have headed for the door!!!
