More like "We could do this on an i810, why more hardware needed on an i5?" They were in danger of losing Linux partitions on small i5's as shops saw the price of the HMC and decided those linux partitions were far from cheap. Given the cost of the HMC could be used to purchase two small Intel boxes for Linux the choice, unfortunatley, was easy. With this announce they have taken back this market.
