Interesting...

There is an entire spectrum then. On one end is the "functionary", and on the other the "politician". The functionary hides in caves and under rocks. The politician plays a mysterious keyboard that controls perception, and hides behind a curtain. Somewhere in the middle are the peones, a race of people who have neither curtain nor rock, and survive while being bathed in the excreta of functionaries and politicians. It's a strange world.

Yes, I believe they are commonly referred to as politicians.
