When you install client access, it lets you select which portions you
want to install. I have never tried, but you might be able to install
the ODBC drivers all by themselves.

Hum,

That's tough.  AFAIK, Excel and Access can use only ODBC drivers.  So
you could do it, but you'd need an ODBC-JDBC Bridge.  I found at least
one out there, but it is a commercial product.

Probably easier and cheaper ($free) to install CA.
