Yes, I've tested this myself (boots normal and manual).

The MFIOP is basically a SCSI controller. As shipped, the tape and CD are configured with SCSI id 0 & 1 (respectively). DASD will be in range of ids 6,5,4,3 (6 is usually the load source).

You can have no tape or CD, 2 tapes and probably 2 CDs (not tested). The only limitation I found was a max of 4 DASD.


I would agree that it would not make sense to configure a system without a CD/DVD or tape. This probably why the configurator (or whatever you are basing you opinion on) doesn't allow it.
