Ahhh, you're using ERRMSG or ERRMSGID then?  If so, you are correct that
output fields don't show changes if one of these keywords is active.  That's
one of the reasons to use a message subfile instead.

I believe I found the problem.  If an error indicator is on apparently the
controller won't allow the screen's fields to change?
