Am looking for a compression tool to run on an iSeries to compress files
located in an IFS directory. Do you know of a product that does this?

The "jar" utility basically performs all the functions of the ZIP
utility, Anne. The jar utility is available under QShell and you can
use it for zipping and unzipping things.

There are lots of places with information on the jar utility. Here's a
good place to start:

http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/jar/basics/

Maybe http://www.pkware.com/products/enterprise/iseries/pkz/ ?

The java jar utility does ZIP compression on IFS objects also, but it
only runs in qshell.

As David and Joe replied, jar will handle zipping files. There's also the
Qshell pax command, which handles other formats. But, if you need to
password protect the zip file, you'll need PkZip or the open source
equivalent.
