We're talking two different types of time adjustment here...

With V5R3 there is support through *TIMZON objects for the system to
automatically adjust local system time due to daylight saving time
observation. This works with any hardware base running V5R3.

With V5R3 there is also support to speed up or slow down the clock (called
time adjustment). From the Information Center -- Prior to time
adjustments, you could manually change the system time using the time of
day system value. For example, if you wanted to set the system time
backward three minutes, you would manually change the time of day system
value from 3:00:00 (HH:MM:SS) to 2:57:00. By doing this, the system time
from 2:57:00 to 3:00:00 is repeated. This can cause problems for
applications recording time. To avoid these types of problems, you can use
a time adjustment to change the system time and time will not be skipped or
repeated. Adjusting the clock means to incrementally speed up or slow down
the clock so that time is gradually adjusted to the desired time value.
Adjusting does not cause large jumps in time that can be experienced with
setting the clock with the time of day system value. However, adjusting
does take time to complete because it is not a single, instantaneous change
to the clock. For example, adjusting the clock by 1 second could take 10
seconds of real time to complete. It is this form of time adjustment that
is only available on newer hardware models.

Ok - I went and checked for myself just to be safe. Do a search in
infocenter on "time adjustment" and click the first result - you get a
page which says:

----
To make time adjustments, you must be using a version of OS/400 V5R3 or
later with V4R5 or later hardware.

I knew I read it somewhere.

Right - but doesn't it have to be on 8xx/2xx or higher? Like it
wouldn't work on a 7xx? I realize the software needs to be at V5R3.

Just thinking aloud, but isn't there some requirement of the auto-change
to be V4R5 and higher hardware level?

If you were powered off, a bug caused the time change not to happen.
I'm waiting for information about a PTF.

I did this "spring-ahead" powered up, and it worked properly. Last year
I did it powered down, and it also worked.

I upgraded from V5R2 to V5R3 on Saturday and created the data area for
the time zone. The system didn't do the change to daylight saving time
on Sunday, so I did it through OPNAV.

What am I missing for this automatic change ?
