I have 7 parity sets. Set #5 has only 5 units assigned to it so I would
assume I could add these three units to it. They are the same type -
6718.

What do you have in
STRSST
3. Work with disk units
1. Display disk configuration
5. Display device parity status

Been tied up most of the last few days with a TSM consultant.

Re: Adding Disks to ASP and Parity

When I do option 4 it indicates there are no disks eligible to add.

Will you be adding them to an existing RAID set? Do NOT start a 3
drive
parity set. Never use less than 4 drives in a parity set. If you are

ever tempted to do so, start beating your thumb with a hammer until
the

mood passes. Several people on this list have had totally
unacceptable

performance with 3 drive parity sets, with IBM claiming ignorance of
the
problem.

STRSST
3. Work with disk units
2. Work with disk configuration
4. Include unit in device parity protection OR 9. Start device
parity

protection. With 3 drives, you'd better use 4.
2. Add units to ASPs

>From the help:
All the disk units in a parity set must be the SAME CAPACITY
with a minimum number of either 3 or 4 units, and a maximum
number up to 18 units (depending upon the type of adapter)
in the resulting parity set.

Scratch the "either 3 or" part.

Adding Disks to ASP and Parity

I have three non-configured disk drives installed in the system that I
need to add to my system ASP and also start device parity. How do I do
that?
