Richard,

For the screens, we have used message file. All the static information
on the screen are pulled in from message file which can be configured to
read from respective language specific message file.

On the data, the char fields in the database have to be defined as
'Open' type instead of Alpha to accommodate double byte character sets.

The actual translation should preferably be done manually since the
business meanings are usually different from literal text meanings. But
there are some APIs available for this purpose.
Thanks,
Sudha

Subject: CCSID Conversion

Folks,

Is there an easy way on the Iseries (V5R2) to convert English characters
to Japanese either through PF, LF, or PRTF using the CCSID keyword? Or
is there a conversion API with an associate translation table I could
use?

I read something that if your system is has the CCSID set to
65535 a conversion is not possible. Is this true?

My goal is to print an item label in Japanese or English
depending on which user and printer is being used.

Any help or direction you can provide would be greatly
appreciated.

Thank You in advance.
