RE: When is a bug a bug?

If you're referring to the automated reporting, it's nice, but you're not going 
to hear back from it -- especially since they don't know who you are, since 
they don't send identity information.

If you want to "really" report a bug to MS you have to call, email or otherwise 
contact them (http://support.microsoft.com/select/?target=assistance)

My 2¢:  I usually "report the problem" to Microsoft when software crashes on my 
XP systems both at work and at home.  In all but one case that's been the end 
of the issue as far as I've known.  In the one case (out of hundreds) I was 
directed to a third party website for an update to non-M$ software.

Meanwhile, at this company we are the proud owners of five specific PTF's for 
OS/400 software issues that we have experienced (at least we were among the 
first to experience them.)  I'll admit that I get tired of hearing the phrases 
"working as designed" and "unexpected results may occur" but at least we do get 
some response from IBM.  If there is a fix it will be supplied to us; we won't 
have to go looking for it or wait for the next service pack and hope that it's 
been fixed.

It's not likely that they'll create a patch that will allow you to open
the document. However, the reboot issue, well that's another story. And
2000 pro is still in mainstream support, at least until June 30th of
this year, so yes, they should patch that.

So you don't report issues to IBM either? Don't want to be in their
"beta" team? Look, I'm not going to argue the relative stability of
Windows vs. OS/400, my point it, if you're not willing to report the
issues how will they know to fix them? Or do you just assume someone
else will report them for you?
