Scott, I apologize. I misread your post the first time. My question was both hasty and ill-conceived. Besides, as I read the rest of the responses I realized his problem was solved a while ago, REXX is a tool we totally overlook. Its easy to use and has a random number generator. The last time I used it was with OS/2, so you know I am not the one to speak for REXX. :) --------------------------------- Booth Martin http://www.martinvt.com --------------------------------- -------Original Message------- From: Midrange Systems Technical Discussion Date: 03/02/05 12:10:01 To: Midrange Systems Technical Discussion Subject: Re: Adding 1 to date > But is *LILIAN a valid format Scott? Valid format for what? > If he has to use an API and all that entails then he might as well write > an RPG program and be done with it. These particular APIs are very easy to use, and very versatile. (See my previous message for an example.) I agree that calling an RPG program is another good way to do it -- but not everyone has an RPG compiler or RPG knowledge. Calling these APIs is certainly easier than learning RPG. And it really doesn't make sense to buy the RPG compiler just to add 1 to a date. Now if he's got something more sophisticated that he needs to do, RPG would certainly be a better alternative... > Does REXX have a function for this? That might be even easier? I have no experience with REXX. --
