Steve Raby's comparison of the midrange world to the beaches of Europe, and the invading allies was excellent. I'm still chuckling.. I would say that was the most intuitive piece I've read all week. Someone also commented on the older RPGII/III languages, and how simple minded they were, and oh, how difficult to understand their documentation. This platform was built, and supported the single most popular computer base in the history of data processing. It supported IBM's logo of many years of K.I.S.S. (keep it simple stupid) I know how bad some of the documentation was on many of those systems, but they pale in comparison to the current day , large and terribly documented systems that are at the heart of many of to-day's sexy new OO systems. I also believe, the reason why most larger companies have quite a large quality assurance group, is simply because of the lousy documentation methods used to-day. That is not meant as a slight to the warriors in QA, but rather a symptom of a larger problem. I'm glad that we , (the RPG group) have a spokesman of Joe's calibre. I feel sometimes we'd be swamped by the b.s, and nay sayers... Ken Shields PPG Canada Inc Ph: 905 725 1144 (326) Fx: 905 433 8712
