That stern warning might apply to me.  :-)

Since there is a possibility in our shop like ours (which is willing to 
try test ptf's) I no longer do the APYPTF LICPGM(*ALL) APY(*PERM) 
DELAYED(*YES) that a lot of shops do.  Because once you do your options 
are really limited if IBM updates the test ptf.  If you don't perm apply 
them you just RMVPTF, load and apply the update.  Now, you have to either
reload the OS
run with the older ptf
cajole IBM into releasing the update as a new ptf number.

That last one cannot be found in the book "How to Win Friends and 
Influence People".
