I strongly suspect it IS a V5R3 issue. And I think the CCSID of the
file that you are piping it to could be changed and it might start
working.

V5R3 has strict enforcement of CCSID. Failure to follow the rules
exactly will cause this hex looking garbage.

Subject
Pipe to file not working as expected

This command used to produce a listing of the directory in a file which
I read over with a CL program; however, it has stopped working.

Unfortunately, I don't know precisely when it stopped working; but we
did recently upgrade to V5R3.

Produces a blank member:
    QSH CMD('LS /home/HigherOne/Rcv/* >
/qsys.lib/lbucmusr.lib/listfile.file/listfile.mbr')

Produces the following output to the screen
    QSH CMD('LS /home/HigherOne/Rcv/*')
        /home/HigherOne/Rcv/Liberty200308180936.act
        /home/HigherOne/Rcv/Liberty200308190942.act
        /home/HigherOne/Rcv/Liberty200308221647.act
Press ENTER to end terminal session.

Produces an IFS file full of junk (EBCIDIC I think)
    QSH CMD('LS /home/HigherOne/Rcv/* > /home/jehimes/ls.txt')

Has anyone else had this issue?

TIA,
Jay
