The internal search function is temporarily non-functional. The current search engine is no longer viable and we are researching alternatives.
As a stop gap measure, we are using Google's custom search engine service.

Why? Because it's -there-!
Why did I enjoy attending lectures by John Sears, even though I had
only a vague notion of the details he spoke of-- because he gave
insights into HOW the machine did things-- and the deeper my
understanding of the machine, the better I can diagnose problems, and
discard possibilities that conflict with my understanding of
'reality.'
In the case of data retrieval, a discussion such as this broadens my
understanding of SQL and why it seems to be preferred over more
'traditional' methods of accessing data.
Of course, I get a little annoyed when I'm given a request to change
live data, and someone has phrased the request as an SQL statement,
and all it changes is one record (and they knew all along they were
only after one record, and knew what the key was...).

Finally, why do you care? Seriously, if the data returned is what you
asked for, who cares _how_ it does it, as long as it does it fast?
