A lot depends on what software level your iSeries has currently
installed and what version of UDB for LUX you are talking about.

With V5R2 or R3 vs. V8.1 or 8.2 of UDB, you can probably (or your
software vendor can) make this work. If the vendor only supports V7 of
YDB, it can probably still work. V5 of UDB would be sticky...

The primary (current) differences between iSeries DB2 UDB and the DB2
UDB for LUW (Linux, Unix and Windows) are:

- the catalogs are in different schemas between the two platform bases,
though the iSeries is currently moving these.
- support for grouping sets, cube and rollup operations only exist in
LUW versions.
- EVI indexing technology still only exists in the iSeries (IIRC)
- journaling is optional on the iSeries, not on LUW. Some ODBC and JDBC
drivers have troubles without journaling and commitment control.

Other than that, the DDL and DML are almost completely interchangable,
virtually identical. But you are still at the mercy of your software
vendor. Some of them are obstinate about not supporting the iSeries.
