It does sound like maybe the UPS was turned on, and when the batteries got low it started the warning chirp, which would eventually end when the batteries drained. ...Neil "Jim Franz" <franz400@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent by: midrange-l-bounces@xxxxxxxxxxxx To "Midrange Systems Technical Discussion" <midrange-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> cc Subject Re: chirping noise from new i5 > Are you saying that something makes a sound with the unit unplugged?? yes - new machine arrived yesterday & all i did was unpack server and put it & boxes in corner. Chirping started shortly after. Every 4-5 minutes for about an hour, and sounds like a failing UPS or smoke alarm (or a cricket..). It stopped about hour or so later (..wish i had never posted the question..) I now think it was a real cricket, not uncommon in NC. This box sat in freight forward warehouse for many days over holiday. jim ----- Original Message ----- From: "Al Barsa" <barsa@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: "Midrange Systems Technical Discussion" <midrange-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, December 30, 2004 9:30 AM Subject: Re: chirping noise from new i5 > > Are you saying that something makes a sound with the unit unplugged?? > > Al > > Al Barsa, Jr.
