Resending a note from yesterday. If this is a duplicate, sorry. I don't pay much attention to receiving my own notes, as I've already read them:-)))) Al Al Barsa, Jr. Barsa Consulting Group, LLC 400>390 "i" comes before "p", "x" and "z" e gads Our system's had more names than Elizabeth Taylor! 914-251-1234 914-251-9406 fax http://www.barsaconsulting.com http://www.taatool.com http://www.as400connection.com ----- Forwarded by Al Barsa/Barsa Consulting on 12/05/2004 01:25 PM ----- Al Barsa/Barsa Consulting To 12/04/2004 10:26 Midrange Systems Technical AM Discussion <midrange-l@xxxxxxxxxxxx> cc Subject Re: Question on V5R3 LPAR mode (Document link: Al Barsa) Denis, There is no required primary partition on i5 hardware only. i5 hardware requires V5R3 on all partitions. V5R3 on older hardware does not mean that your primary partition goes away on those models. If you think that this is a tad complicated, you are completely correct. This is a question on running in LPAR mode. One of the other guys here is reading a RedBook about Performance Management on the iSeries. It said something about Primary and Secondary Partitions. In particular, it said that you have one "Primary" partition. If the OS in that partition fails, then all other partitions fail. Looking at the V5R3 stuff, so far, it appears that this is no longer true. So: with i5/OS V5R3, is there a "Primary Partition", an outage on which will terminate the systems in all other partitions? This is definately different than zSeries where the hypervisor does not depend in any way on any LPAR.
