I believe this is called journalling. Just today I had an analyst and his supervisor wondering where thousands of records went. On occasion they go bye-bye. Some debate as to which program in which job is doing this. All I did was the following CRTJRNRCV... CRTJRN... STRJRNPF... UPDDTA on the file in question DSPJRN... and not only could we see which job, but we could see which program added and deleted a particular record. Now, you can SQL the receivers directly. You could use SQL against an output file created with DSPJRN I suppose. Now they agree this will be an excellent tool to trap the errant code. In the area of SOX compliance, I'm hearing some great feedback from some people, that by simply engaging a feature on the DB2, changes that occur to databases are automatically logged, and can be inquired on later using SQL... I'm almost certain, that with the requirements of this new law, many companies will expend a great deal of money and effort to accomplish the same. Thumbs up definetely to IBM..
