I don't know whether you are using VPN to connect to the office, but here is something I remember seeing at DirecWay's site:

Q: Can I run a VPN over DIRECWAY Professional?

A. Yes, however, running a VPN client over satellite is not an ideal configuration. If you choose to run VPN over satellite, your data speeds may be reduced by as much as 50- 75%. You can restore your connection to full speed by disabling your VPN client when your session is over. Note: DIRECWAY technical support does not provide help with configuring or troubleshooting problems associated with VPN clients.

*** DIRECWAY does offer an end-to-end VPN accelerator solution for large corporations and government agencies that delivers higher connection speeds over DIRECWAY. Go to <http://vpn.direcway.com>http://vpn.direcway.com for more information.

22 Q: Why does the service slow down when used in conjunction with a VPN?

A: DIRECWAY uses sophisticated acceleration techniques to enable high-speed performance over satellite. These acceleration techniques require access to data packet header information, which is blocked when some VPNs are used. These VPNs encrpyt the data and create a secure tunnel through the DIRECWAY network. The encrypted data cannot be processed by DIRECWAY's acceleration techniques, which results in slower performance.

Is there anyone else out there that is running the DirecWay Satellite
internet service?

I have an issue with using iSeries Access over my connection that I keep
running into. The screen stops responding after a few I/O's, especially
when I'm attempting to work with JD Edwards (sorry, Peoplesoft!). The
session just stops communicating and I have to manually disconnect and
reconnect, and then cancel the old job on the iSeries.

If I switch back to a dial-up connection, this problem goes away. I
would really like to be able to work from home without tying up the
phone line though.

Does anyone have any thoughts/comments?
