I don't know the expression GIG MIG but I have upgraded DASD before. Did my
home system from 4x4G to 4x8G about a year ago. The main tool is using DST
and removing/add disk. This unloads the data to the remaining drives. Then
replace the empty drives and add the new ones back in again using DST. Be
sure to do your math so you know how many you can swap at a time. Care also
needs to be taken with RAID and mirrored sets. When you get to the Load
Source drive you will copy it off to an empty drive and then power off, this
is a different DST option. Relocate the new copy to the Load Source drive
into the old location and power back on. Depending on how full your drives
are and how many free drive slots (on controllers) you can use it may take
several cycles to upgrade all the drives.

Subject: How to perform a GIG MIG

Does anyone have any information on how to perform a GIG MIG at V4R5?

I am wanting to replace 5 x 4GB with 5 x 17GB drives. I have been advised
there is a procedure that will migrate the data off the 4GB drives onto the
remaining DASD. I will then put in the new drives and balance the data
across all the drives. My current system is at V4R5 and is sitting at 82%
utilisation of DASD.
