I really hope that you are not being asked to write a Bisynch
application in 2004 - it's a really old and slow way of doing things -
based on the 2780 and 3780 device protocols.  Using FTP would be a much
better and more forward looking approach.

It sounds like someone has really mutilated an old bisynch application.
A BSC38 type file is essentially a device file - sort of an antiquated
version of a DSPF - that always accepts an 80 column input and puts out
either an 80 column output (2780 protocol) or a 132 column output (3780
protocol).  If you've got a bisynch file being overridden to a file that
was sent to you via FTP, you might be able to simply eliminate the BSC38
and read the ftp'd file directly.
