Just thought I'd keep you posted on our trials and tribulations with a 3 disk raid set. IBM suspected that it might have been because the 3 disk raid set was added when the system was down. The system would have came up and decided these disks were empty, let's put all the temp files on these drives and beat the stuffing out of them. So, this last weekend we did a Step-Mode Manual IPL. Early on we broke out and did a WRKDSKSTS and sure enough they were out of balance. This would be before the temp files were built. Ran the STRASPBAL *CAPACITY. Got them into balance. Continued on. Still the performance is unacceptable. However we did rule out the temporary file issue. The ball is back in IBM's court. We don't have a problem with the SPENDMONEY command. However, as a service to IBM and our midrange community we thought we'd pursue this problem and see why we are having this issue. We're not the first. But according to IBM we're the first to actually pursue it and not just do the SPENDMONEY solution. We're aware that a 3 disk raid set is inefficient in striping and wastes disk versus the vast improvements in a 4 drive set. Not expecting this performance hit though.
