This may be where you use a DATALINK field in your database. And if you
have QNTC set up and running right you should be able to do the following
from your i5:
wrklnk '//myserver/aShareOnThatServer/myfile.jpg' and find it. Then you
can decide whether or not you can write an application to do this. I
would suspect that it would have to either be client based, or browser
based. Oh, I suppose you could use RUNRMTCMD or STRPCO&STRPCCMD to fire
up an application on the user's pc to load the image. QED eh? For
example from one 5250 session I did:
strpco
STRPCCMD PCCMD('\\rob\qtemp\haas.bmp')
where rob is the name of a PC that I have access to and qtemp is a name of
a share on that PC. And it automatically fired up the image.
The jwalk's, portal ap's, etc allow you to format that into a certain area
on your screen and leave your 5250 data (or whatever) in a certain area so
that it looks more integrated. But it's quite doable on the cheap.

Imaging interface techniques and tools
The CEO has approached me about establishing an "imaging interface" from
some of our 400 applications to a server on the network chock full of
jpegs
representing our item catalog.
I know there are 3rd party options in many different forms including, i
think, some Shareware stuff (i.e. Jadvantage by Bos-a-nova has an emulator
with a "right click" string resolution to an image) that make it
relatively
easy to pass a key (like an item#) through an API to connect down to a
server that has images available for viewing on the requesting PC device.
Is there an API(s)defined somewhere (maybe a TAATOOL?) that can be
utilized
in house to make this type of connection? Does anyone know of any tried
and
true software solutions...SHAREWARE or "Pay Per View" that you might want
to recommend?
Thanks for the time everybody.
