Here's a suggestion, change IJDATE from numeric to a date field in the 
file, and simplify the he!! out of this.  Date fields have been around 
since V3R2.

Rob,

To be honest, I usually to the conversion from the numeric file field to
date as you suggest.

However, the problem with this is that it the file has an index on the
numeric date field, it won't be used in that case.

Whereas, if you convert that date to a numeric, the index could be used.
