IBM has this figured out also. There's something under the covers, I BELIEVE (ymmv), that will catch this. I strongly suggest you do a full system save under V4R5 in case you want to be able to use this machine and your technique doesn't work. Did you have software subscription on the 820? If so you should have been able to upgrade to V5R2 then V5R3 without any IBM cost. I've heard about these 70 days. So each time I start my back-up system with the tapes saved on my V5R3 production system, I will have 70 days to work with. That could help. Regards. Keys are Serialnumber, processortype bound! Upgrading from V4R5 directly to V5R3 is not possible, you are only allowed to skip 1 release V4R5 to V5R2 and then to V5R3 You don't need keys for V5R2 because you have 70 days tot get the keys and before that time you will upgrade to V5R3 for which you will also have 70 days to get the keys, without the keys is will stop working after 70 days. IBM told us it will cost near to 60000 euros, that means more than to buy a new 520. OK, 820 is a P20 machine and 520 is a P10 one. We didn't even ask what it will cost to upgrade our 830 which is a P30 machine. It's like IBM wants us to change all our material... I have never done a system upgrade. Is it true that we need a special key to upgrade ? Does it mean software key is related to the machine id and to the version ? No matter if I have no maintenance on it. Isn't it possible to use the V4R5 key when loading a V5R3 from CD's ? Thanks. -- This is the Midrange Systems Technical Discussion (MIDRANGE-L) mailing list To post a message email: MIDRANGE-L@xxxxxxxxxxxx To subscribe, unsubscribe, or change list options, visit: http://lists.midrange.com/mailman/listinfo/midrange-l or email: MIDRANGE-L-request@xxxxxxxxxxxx Before posting, please take a moment to review the archives at http://archive.midrange.com/midrange-l.
